Karen Metheny is a first grade teacher at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School. She has been teaching at Mary Queen for 28 years. Mrs. Metheny received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa and her Master’s Degree in Education from Georgetown College. She is married to Mike and the mother of two children, JulieAnne and Zac, who are graduates of Mary Queen and Lexington Catholic. JulieAnne is a special ed teacher in Fort Thomas, KY and Zac is a middle school teacher in Union, KY. She is excited about the new year and watching the children grow.
Teri Obst - First Grade Teacher -
Ms. Obst is a 32 year veteran teacher who came out of retirement to teach at Mary Queen. She is originally from Chicago, IL and relocated to Lexington, KY in August of 2019. Ms. Obst has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education with a Music Education Minor. Ini her spare time she enjoys being with her family and friends, singing, camping and kayaking.
Suzy Wells - Second Grade Teacher -
Mrs. Wells is a second grade teacher at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School. She is an alumni of Mary Queen and Lexington Catholic High School. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Kentucky. Mrs. Wells has a Master’s Degree in Education with an endorsement in Teacher Leadership from Georgetown College. She is also a Certified Catechist. This is her 12th year teaching 2nd grade at Mary Queen. Previously she spent 2 years as a kindergarten teacher at Good Shepherd Catholic School in Frankfort. She also has several years of experience teaching pre-school. Mrs. Wells and her husband Mike and the proud parents of one daughter and two sons, who are all graduates of Mary Queen. She enjoys family trips to the beach, reading, music, and watching her kids’ concerts and sporting events. Mrs. Wells is an active Mary Queen parishioner and is involved in the music ministry and serves on the Liturgy Committee. She is looking forward to another year of helping her students grow in faith and knowledge.
Michelle Jackson - Second Grade Teacher -
Michelle Jackson is a 2nd grade teacher at Mary Queen. This is her 15th year in the classroom; she's taught 5th grade, 4th grade, and 2nd grade. Mrs. Jackson holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, with minors in music and religious studies, from Centre College. She earned her Master's degree from Western Kentucky University. She is a proud graduate of MQHR! Mrs. Jackson has 3 children, all of whom are currently students at Mary Queen. She enjoys spending time with her family- going for bike rides, playing outside, baking, and reading lots of books. She enjoys being outdoors, especially boating, kayaking, hiking, and waterskiing.
Anna Blandford - Third Grade Teacher -
Anna Blandford is a 3rd grade teacher. She has a true passion for teaching and loves being in the classroom. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Wheeling Jesuit University in 2010 and her Master's Degree in Multicategorical Special Education from West Virginia University in 2014. She grew up in a small town in West Virginia but moved to Lexington in 2011. She is married to Nathan, who is a Mary Queen graduate. They have two kids, Owen and Emmy, who also attend MQHR.
Alexis Sturgill - Third Grade Teacher -
Ms. Sturgill is a third grade teacher at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary. This is her 3rd year teaching. She received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky University. She also attended Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School and is a graduate of Lexington Catholic High School. In her free time, Ms. Sturgill enjoys being outdoors, reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. .
Hannah Pendleton -Fourth Grade Teacher -
Ms. Pendleton is currently teaching her 3rd year at Mary Queen. She received her Bachelor's in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Early Childhood Education from the University of Louisville. She attended St. John School from Kindergarten-8th grade and graduated from Scott County High School in 2015. Ms. Pendleton is planning to start working on her Masters within the next year. In her spare time, she enjoys being with family and friends
Barb Biega - Fourth Grade Teacher -
Mrs. Biega is presently in her 35th year of teaching at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School. She began her career as a long term substitute in the kindergarten classroom where she ended up staying for 13 years. She has also taught 2nd and 5th grade before accepting her current position in the 4th grade. Mrs. Biega received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education from Eastern Kentucky University. She is also a certified Catechist. Mrs. Biega is the mother of two grown children, both working in Ohio. Her daughter is a graduate of the College of Design, Architecture, Arts and Planning (DAAP). Her son is a graduate of the Lindner College of Business. Both graduated from the University of Cincinnati. In her spare time she enjoys reading and watching sporting events. Mrs. Biega loves sharing new information with her students and watching them grow!
Aimee Landrum - Fifth Grade Teacher -
Aimee Landrum is a 5th-grade teacher at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary. She has 25 years of experience teaching in Catholic Schools, 20 of those years at Mary Queen. Mrs. Landrum received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Kentucky and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Georgetown College. She also holds Catholic certification in the Diocese of Lexington. Mrs. Landrum was honored to be the 1999 Teacher of the Year for Harrison County. She is the proud mother of two children, ages 16 and 20. Mrs.Landrum strives to make a difference in the lives of each child she teaches.
Erin Spring - Fifth Grade Teacher -
Erin Spring is a 5th grade teacher at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School. She has 13 years of experience teaching in 5th grade, but has been at Mary Queen since 2019. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Transylvania University and her Master's Degree in Teacher Leadership from Georgetown College. She grew up in Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida, but mostly in western Kentucky. She moved to Lexington for undergrad and has lived here since. She is married to Kyle, who is a MQHR graduate. Together they have Caroline and Colin who both go to Mary Queen. Mrs. Spring loves getting to know her students and building relationships with them and their families.
