GRADES 6 TO 8
The Mary Queen Middle School curriculum is designed to meet the transitional needs of each student. The incorporation of the One-to-One Program in the curriculum allows students to become more independent and gives them experiences where they can accept more responsibility for their own learning under supportive teachers.
The language arts curriculum includes: grammar, the Wordly Wise Vocabulary Program, Greek and Latin etymology, and spelling. The study of fiction and non-fiction reading and writing focuses on specific genres and purposes at each grade level.
The social studies curriculum encourages the students to discover more about the world's geography, its people, its resources, and its history. Church events are taught side-by-side to give relevance and bring context to the lessons.
The math curriculum prepares students at their level for transition into high school. Classes include pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry. Students are actively engaged and challenged at their level.
The Middle School science curriculum includes earth, life, and physical sciences. With the recent addition of a new, state-of-the-art, spacious science lab, students are actively involved in hands-on activities and experiments.
The Middle School religion curriculum focuses on both the Old and New Testaments and prepares students for further study of the Sacrament of Confirmation in the ninth grade. The teachings of Jesus are lived out with meaningful service within school, church and community.
Additional classes are available in art, physical education, Spanish, study skills, band, and music.
Middle School students are offered many extra-curricular opportunities. Athletics include: basketball, football, volleyball, or golf. Students may also participate in clubs and organizations like KYA, KUNA, STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program), Lego Robotics, Art Club and others throughout the year.
